Borders and ice cream spoons.

For those amongst us that arrive to the UK from Europe the border is merely a symbolic one.
But since we live surrounded by gadgets demanding a frequent supply of electricity, the symbolic border becomes a real one once in the UK, whenever we try to plug one of those gadgets fitted with the Europlug into a wall socket in order to feed it.
Low cost airlines have made the world smaller and the data rich platforms we constantly use rely on batteries, which in return need power supplies and wall sockets to work.
After eight years living in London I have seen a myriad of temporary hacks to those UK wall sockets, from ice cream spoons to paper clips or even the daring screwdriver.
My favorite remains the Bic© pen lid. For the price of just one EU/UK adapter you can buy a bunch of them, fit all your sockets with it and still use the pens to draw (as they don’t dry out without the lid).
It is always amazing to see how creative people gets when they need a quick fix of information.
